RFUMC Men’s Ministry Meeting Notes January 11, 2012
1. 17 members attended (18 last month). 2 First Time attendees (Jerome Owens & Jeffery Goodlet)
2. Treasurer’s Report: a. $2,806 – Balance as of January 1, 2012 b. Received $200 check from Mary Lou Stephens for the piano that was donated to us and given to Mary Lou. c. We have received checks from the Kroger gift card program for 4 consecutive months.
3. Old Business
a. Men’s Bible Study – We will be starting a new book next week – “When Christians Get it Wrong” by Adam Hamilton. b. RAT Projects: Wanda Katzman has a project to move her mail box. Don Woomer is coordinating with her to get this done. c. BBQ Brisket Fund Raiser – Ron Smith netted approximately $100 from the sale of the Beef Brisket. d. Piano – It has been determined the piano located in the corridor behind the Fellowship Hall belongs to the Men’s Ministry and we will sell it at the next yard sale. e.“Men’s Day Out” – All those that attended the event on Dec 31 had a great time.. f. Men’s Ministry Tables – We agreed to move the 20 tables owned by the Men’s Ministry to the Fellowship Hall and move 20 tables from the Fellowship Hall to the MMC. We will continue to offer the tables owned by the Men’s Ministry for rent. Doug Petry agreed to stencil the tables to identify those that belong to the Men’s Ministry prior to making the move.
4. New or Upcoming Business
a. Pancake Breakfast – We agreed to have pancake breakfasts on March 11 and May 20. We further agreed that the net proceeds from the March 11 breakfast will go to the Youth Ministry and the net proceeds from the May 20 breakfast will go to the Sharing Ministry. b. WNL Dinner – We agreed to provide the WNL Dinner on May 9. The suggested menu was BBQ meat, potatoes, slaw, veggies and dip, rolls, and dessert. We reserve the right to adjust the menu as we see fit. We further agreed to invite the parents from the Day Care to the meal. Don Woomer volunteered to create the invites and give them to the Day Care Center Staff to pass on to the parents. c. By-Laws Review – Kelly Upchurch distributed copies of the current by-laws and asked for any suggested changes be e-mailed to him. The executive team will review the suggested changes and bring them to the full group for approval.
RAT Projects
i. Vehicle repair request from individual living at the Faith House. The individual needs a car to provide transportation which will aid in his search for a job. Someone has donated a car to the individual that is in need of a new transmission. We agreed to provide $100 for this purpose which will cover the cost of a transmission available at a junk yard. ii. There is a church member in need of assistance in moving. The move date is to be determined. It was agreed to provide assistance as schedules allow. It was suggested that a move on a weekend would allow more of us to help. e. We were reminded that the Men’s Ministry has a “Facebook” page. All are encouraged to visit the page. f. Storage Building Shelving – Alex Fassas donated some shelving to be used in the storage building. We agreed to target a date in March to erect the shelving and move the tables as discussed in old business. g. EKU Wesley Foundation Meals – We agreed to provide up to 2 meals for the Wesley Foundation if requested. Doug Petry and Malcolm Poulter agreed to take the lead in preparing and delivering the food to the Wesley Foundation. h. Piano Dolly – We approved the purchase of a piano dolly for an amount up to $215 + tax & freight. Don Woomer will pursue this further. All of our backs expressed appreciation for this.
